RagaMuffin in the Czech Republic
2023-09-23
The RagaMuffin breed is bred in the Czech Republic only in the Independent Breeders Club (kennel Síh, kennel Magnolie). It has been bred since 2015 and its representatives are registered with experimental pedigrees. Among international organizations it is recognized by WCF, TICA and CFA.
Czech RagaMuffin founder line is the Ragdolls -the descendants of the Berberis line (Tuftytoes, Kandu), which had among its ancestors the solid-coloured cats and shared ancestors with the original RagaMuffins, the domestic cats (Anie) and the Norwegian Forest (Agnes Stella Nova). Many of the founding cats worked in Animal Assisted Intervention ( Naomi Berberis, Frea Lady of Gondor, Agnes Stella Nova, Cory Cat Darlings, Adrian Magnolia, Ivy Bush Síh and others).
Selection pressure is focused on:
1. Character traits and ability to cope with stress
2. Health
RagaMuffin is tested for HCM RAG, PKD, DNA profiles. A standard Fe-BARQ test and training and supervision in terms of felinotherapy is carried out.
RagaMuffins from NCHK are not sold to Czech breeding organizations (FIFe does not recognize the RagaMuffin breed, experimental PP and breeding goals), they can be obtained as therapy animals, pets or for controlled breeding in NCHK. Sales abroad and for felinotherapy purposes are not restricted. It is a breed of few numbers.
While we may not agree with some of the breeding practices of Ann Baker, the founder of RAG and RGM breeding, we certainly agree on one thing:
What makes a RagaMuffin a RagaMuffin is not looks, but character :-).
